Saint John Lutheran Church was founded in 1876. Since then, we have been proclaiming Christ, delivering His gracious gifts, and spiritually caring for God’s people in Sycamore and the surrounding communities. We plan to celebrate our 150th Anniversary with four special services (and other special events). This page will be updated as plans are finalized by the anniversary committee.
After a devastating fire destroyed our previous facility near downtown, we broke ground for our present campus on August 28, 2005. This first celebration marks the 20th anniversary of this groundbreaking. The day will begin with a festive Divine Service, followed by Bible Class and Sunday School, and then a church picnic with outdoor games and festivities.
Our congregation was located near downtown for most of its history. However, fire destoyed our previous facility on February 9, 2004. This second celebration marks the 22nd anniversary of this fire, from which God has graciously helped us rise from the ashes. The day will begin with a festive Divine Service, followed by Bible Class and Sunday School, and then a potluck meal.
Our congregation held its very first service on May 28, 1876. This third celebration is the BIG ONE, marking our 150th anniversary of Christ-centered Word and Sacrament ministry to this community. Our regular Divine Service will take place in the morning. Then a festive 150th Anniversary service will take place in the afternoon, followed by a banquet and program off-site.
Our congregation chose Saint John as its official name on December 10, 1876. This final celebration marks the 150th anniversary of our naming. The day will begin with a festive Divine Service, followed by Bible Class and Sunday School, and then a potluck meal.
“Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.”
