Committee Chair John Holtz called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm and opened with prayer.

Minutes of the April 14 meeting were amended and approved.

Roger Loptien has been in contact withy Joe Winkelmann from Larson & Darby, architects, and they will need to contact the engineer about changing the parking lot. It was decided that if the additional cost is $500 or less, Roger will authorize them to have it done.

The vent over the dishwasher was removed due to infrequent use of the dishwasher. Roger will ask if it could be installed later, if necessary. There was also a question about the use of chemicals because of the septic system.

It was announced that the Special use Permit for the new church was granted. Paul Miller said the Committee did a great job.

Joe Winkelmann needs to have arrangements finalized for the kitchen. Marlene Turk and Linda VanBuren feel we should use Food Equipment Liquidators of Rockford. It was decided to accept Food Equipment Liquidators’ bid as the sole provider for kitchen equipment.

Robin Dallesasse read a letter asking to be release from the Education Task force for health reasons. She recommended Pam Bolander as her temporary replacement. Marlene Turk made a motion, Linda VanBuren seconded, motion approved.

Robin asked that the nursery room wall be moved 3 feet, which would increase the amount of space in the nursery. She also recommends adoption of Option 4 in the architects’ plan in making the preschool room larger and the 8th grade room smaller. This would square up the rooms. Roger will check with Joe Winkelmann tomorrow on this.

It was stated that the Unilock Building in Aurora is build with the utility brick that the Committee chose for the church. Pastor Phelps will take a photo of the building. It was noted that the utility brick will save $50,000 to $70,000. This will be shown to the congregation at the Voters’ Meeting on Sunday. The congregation will also be brought up to date on the progress the Committee has made. The plans for the sanctuary, all-purpose room, and kitchen will be shown. No one seems to know exactly what the all-purpose room will look like, but it will not be like Cornerstone’s gymnasium, where we worship now.

Carl Heide suggested handouts be given to the congregation showing drawings of the plans, and be prepared to answer questions. A timeline handout will also be given. Ceiling samples, brick and stone samples will be shown. A screen will be put up to show pictures.

Some members of the Committee feel that carpet tiles for the all-purpose room are a waste of time and money, since we have the adult room, which holds 40 people.

There was discussion about putting up a “Future Home of St. John” sign on the property. Paul Miller had said there should be no signs, but that may have been prior to getting the special use permit.

Gerry Hartmann said there are not 71 pallets of stone at his house, 13 at Dick Rowlett’s, and more at John Meier’s, but he wonders if they are suitable and if they can be cleaned, especially for the wall behind the altar. Robin cautions about cost of labor for doing stone.

The stained glass window was brought up. Robin suggested checking other vendors.

The congregation needs to be informed that prices are going up and that we could be looking at more than the $5.3 million originally quoted.

Linda VanBuren moved to close, Carl Heide seconded. Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm. Closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernice Maness
