The Building Committee met at 321 Park Avenue, 6:00 pm. Chair John Holtz opened the meeting, Pastor Phelps read 2 Corinthians 16, followed with prayer.

Minutes of the April 28th meeting were corrected. The last line of the first page was not printed. John Holtz’s and Roger Loptien’s names were to be included, along with Tom Taylor and Roger Loptien as being involved in the final review on May 17, 2005. Also, the beam from the original church was retrieved by John Meier and Tom Taylor. David VanBuren made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected. Roger Loptien seconded, motion carried.

John Holtz said that Larson & Darby representatives were not able to be present at this meeting and handed out copies of an e-mail from Joe Winkelmann explaining it.

The Construction Task Force narrowed down the list of general contractors to 5 possible.

The well bids were discussed. H.I. Stone & Sons is higher bid. Drilling from Tyrrell Well & Pump would also have labor to be donated by Jeff and Diane Tyrrell. They are hoping for a 200-300 foot well, but may have to go deeper. There was discussion as to 2” or 4” piping. Roger Loptien made a motion to accept the Tyrrell bid, Lowell Evans seconded, motion carried. Pastor Phelps asked to provide a letter to Tyrell’s for the donation of labor. The Committee voted to provide it.

Worship & Organ – John Hansen stated that a façade has been chosen. Berghaus Organ Manufacturer will build the organ. Their committee will meet next week. Roger Loptien stated that because of a potential fire hazard, more sprinklers would be needed in that area. Larson & Darby are working on this.

Stewardship – David VanBuren stated they will be having a meeting on the 24th and the budget vs. loan source can be discussed.

Education & Youth – Pam Bolander was welcomed as a member of the Building Committee, to temporarily replace Robin Dallesasse for the times she can’t be there.

New Business – Lowell Evans suggested that a 5-member subcommittee be appointed to look into stained glass window possibilities. There will be 16 windows, and some people have shown an interest in purchasing one. This would be a long-term committee in order to maintain color and quality, and the manufacturer would be the same one throughout. Lowell stated that the Iowa company has all the information it needs on the windows in the old church, but the committee would look into possibilities of vendors. The windows are thermopane to begin with, and the stained glass could be installed inside them at a later date.

David VanBuren made a motion to set up a separate stained glass committee under the Planning & construction Task Force to identify preferred vendors for any stained glass put into the building. Marlene Turk seconded. Roger Loptien has people in mind for this and will form the sub-committee. Motion carried.

Bricks were discussed, and since the black coloring was not acceptable, the company needs to be notified about that. Roger Loptien made a motion to put vinyl siding on only the backs of the Fellowship and Education wings at this time. Carl Heide seconded, motion carried.

John Holtz read an e-mail from Joe Winkelmann with 14 items on a list that need to be addressed. Roger Loptien will respond.

Ken Mundy moved to adjourn, Pastor Phelps seconded, motion carried.

Meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.

Next meeting is Thursday, May 19, 6:00 pm, at the church office, with Carl Heide as chair.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernice Maness
