Mortgage Burning

Longtime members remember the fire that destroyed our former church building at 327 South Main Street on 9 February 2004. Though our faith was tested in the crucible of that fire, our gracious Lord remained ever with us — leading us, guiding us, forgiving us, loving us. In the strength of His words and promises, we rebuilt at our present sight and dedicated this new church building in 2006. By God’s grace and with the generosity of God’s people, we paid off our mortgage in December 2020.

We celebrated God’s graciousness to us with a ceremonial burning of the mortgage and congregational meal on 25 July 2021. As members and friends gathered near the church bell, Pastor Mumme led the Scripture reading and prayer, Carl Heide (congregational chairman) tossed a copy of our paid-off mortgage into the fire, and everyone sang the common doxology. Then we enjoyed a catered meal and lots of homemade desserts in the multi-purpose room and outdoor tent, as well as a bouncy house, volleyball, and corn hole.
